The Middle East is home to some of the most beautiful cultures, history and nature and is also considered one of the cradles of civilization. The entire area has a history passed down from the Nabateans, Achaemenids, Sumerians and Romans and is blessed with things that a tourist and adventurous explorer would consider their playground. And one of the best places to see these amazing blends of culture history and nature in the Middle East is Jordan, a country that often passes the eyes and is highly underrated to visit as a tourist.

Jordan is a country you might have heard of when searching for ancient Roman theaters, desert camping and religious objects. While it has all this importance it’s also home to so much stuff regarding culture, nature and history that would leave you in awe. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan contains amazing cultures like the Bedouins, Arabs, nature in the form of picturesque valleys, coasts and mountains and a history that history buffs would absolutely love. One of the best countries to visit as a tourist, it requires at least some time to fully encompass what importance this gem of a tourist destination holds, whether it’s religious or as a tourist and cultural heritage destination.

For those new to the country or those wanting to visit Jordan in the near future, we’ve made the perfect Jordan itinerary that lasts for 5 days and has everything you need to know about Jordan, what to visit and for how long, which hotel to stay in Jordan and some Jordan travel tips.

Though not as unbearably hot as it is in Morocco’s interior cities, the weather is warm and dry. If you visit the city in the summer, you can also get to enjoy iconic cultural events such as the Festival de Casablanca to add to your normal Casablanca itinerary.

Known for its unusual rock formations and excellent hot air ballooning sites, Cappadocia’s extraordinary landscapes are among Turkey’s most well-known natural beauties. Any traveler’s bucket list in Turkey includes a visit to Cappadocia, which is located in eastern Anatolia and is known for its distinctive monuments, architectural sites, and popular tourist attractions.

The passage of various ancient civilizations and elements of nature created Cappadocia thousands of years ago. Volcanic eruptions, wind, and water erosion have all resulted in various significant geological changes in the region. Beginning in the tenth century BC, indigenous groups carved their homes within the pliable rocks, transforming the topography.

Today, tourists may explore these intriguing structures while riding mountain bikes through Goreme National Park’s valleys or taking hot-air balloon tours. Thanks to its high safety standards and welcoming residents known for their warm Turkish hospitality, Cappadocia has grown to be one of Turkey’s most popular tourism destinations. For those wondering how much time to spend in Cappadocia, only a week-long trip to this magical location can do visiting it justice. However, if you only have 24 hours on your hand to explore, you can still visit the major landmarks and have an exciting trip. This Cappadocia 24-hour itinerary offers a ton of fun activities for people of all ages and budgets.

Exploring Cappadocia: A 24-Hour Unforgettable Adventure

There is always something more to discover in Cappadocia, whether you are there for three days or 10. But for those who only have 24 hours to explore, they can still have an immersive travel experience here by following this itinerary:

1. Visit the Uçhisar Castle

The highest point in Cappadocia, Uchisar Castle, is a gigantic monument that reflects the scale and complexity of the ancient communities. The castle was formerly the city’s major defence and once accommodated 1,000 people, most of them soldiers. Most of the castle is now in ruins, although it may still be explored. Tourists can see the ruins of rooms and living quarters as they go around the rocky hill.

2. Visit the Göreme Village

There is a reason why Göreme is one of the most beautiful villages in the world. The village lies half-buried into a hill, the stone house in the town concealing a labyrinth of cave rooms beneath.

Göreme is the tourism hub of Cappadocia, and many of the traditional houses here have been converted into boutique cave hotels. A short walk from the Göreme Open-Air Museum offers access to El Nazar (Evil Eye) Church and Sakli (Hidden) Church, two famous chapels in the region. The village is also the main starting point for hikers, which branches out to give hikers a myriad of paths that go through bizarre rock formations.

3. Explore the Churches of Göreme Museum

Located just outside of Göreme Village, the Göreme Open-Air Museum is a monastic cluster of rock-cut chapels with intricate frescoes and monk cells. In the 10th and 12th centuries, Cappadocia was an essential Byzantine religious centre, which is when these intricate frescoes were carved into the chapels.

The complex contains several churches and chapels, the most famous ones being the Elmal Church, the Azize Barbara (St. Barbara) Chapel, and the Dark Church (Karanlık Kilise). These buildings are some of the best remnants of the Byzantine period’s civilization and important cultural landmarks.

4. Ride a Horse or Hike Along the Valleys

The Red and Rose Valley is located next to the famous town of Göreme. The sweeping and rippling rock walls of this region stretch out across the countryside in a palette of pastel pink, yellow, and orange cliffs caused by volcanic eruptions and millennia of wind and water erosion.

Between these scenic cliffs lie lush orchards and vegetable fields managed by local farmers. The valley is also home to hidden chapels and hideouts dating back to the Byzantine era which are carved out of the rocks. Among these chapels are the Kolonlu Church, the Haçli Church, and the Üç Haçli Church, which are open for tourists to marvel at their ancient and intricate architecture.

The most famous activity to do in this valley is going horseback riding or hiking along the picturesque landmarks and orchards and enjoying the sunset views.

5. Enjoy a Hot-Air Balloon Trip Over the Cappadocia Valley

If you look up “Cappadocia,” the first pictures that pop up of the region are of tourists enjoying a hot-air balloon ride over the beautifully curved golden valley. Going on an early-morning hot-air balloon trip in Cappadocia is one of the travel highlights for many travellers.

Almost 100 hot-air balloons soar to the skies immediately after sunrise during the summer, offering passengers spectacular bird’s-eye views of the central valley area and its rock formations. The standard flight route passes over the Red, Rose, and Meskendir Valleys, providing tourists with a quick tour of such a vast region.

6. Stop for Lunch and Enjoy a Testi Kebab

The region of Cappadocia is famous for its delectable Testi kebabs, also known as clay pot kebabs. These are prepared in a stew of meat and vegetables cooked inside a clay pot over an open fire until the bottom of the pot cracks.

The pot is packed with bread to collect the ceramic shards, so people don’t end up eating clay along with their kebabs. The finest spot to have Testi kebab in Goreme is Dibek, a local eatery.

7. Climb the Fairy Chimneys of Paşabağı

Paşabağı Valley’s hoodoos, also known as fairy chimneys in Cappadocia, are one of the region’s most recognized natural landmarks. As tourists drive over the hill from Cavusin Village, their first view is the fairy chimneys in Paşabağı Valley, which appear to be a grove of giant rocky mushrooms.

A monastic community of devotees of Saint Simeon Stylites, a 4th-century monk who spent his life on top of a pillar in northern Syria, devoted their lives to their stylite practices here in the early Byzantine period. The unique formations of these rocks are still of great interest to visitors who stop to marvel at the scenic views in this valley.

8. Tour the Mazi Underground City

Mazi Underground City, another well-known site in the region, provides another intriguing perspective on a unique historical tradition. The underground complex, with its twisting series of residences, barns, and civic spaces, provided long-term lodging for Christian refugees.

Though facing some degree of ruin, the city offers interesting locations to explore, including a big agricultural field with a highly sophisticated barn system. The entire region is a remarkable illustration of how the people of the underground city established and preserved their societies.

9. Hike Through the Ihlara Valley

Ihlara Valley is a small, lush valley at the foot of a 100-metre-deep canyon in southwest Cappadocia, which is a nature lover’s paradise. Surrounded by rough, high cliffs, this valley is a beautiful terrain of towering poplar trees and fertile farming plots alongside the sweeping Melendiz River, which flows 14 kilometers from Selime village to Ihlara village.

This valley was a popular retreat for hermetic monk groups during the Byzantine Empire. Now, this place is a beautiful place to drive around or walk around and watch the sunset reflected by red rocks.

Ultimate 24-Hour Istanbul Adventure: Insider Guide with Tips

Obviously, a single day in Istanbul won’t allow you to see everything. This city is too dense in terms of landmarks, tourist attractions, landscape, etc. But this itinerary works well for first-time travelers or those who are stopping over and need a list of the must-see attractions. With this comprehensive itinerary in your pocket, you’ll be able to spend a perfect day in this majestic city, exploring, dining and sightseeing.

Morning: Breakfast, Sightseeing and Cruise

Start the Day With an Authentic Turkish Breakfast

Your day will be full of adventure. To prepare for that, you’ll need a hearty and authentic Turkish breakfast to begin your 24-hour stay in lively Istanbul. Choose a filling Menemen (Turkish omelet) with cheese, jam, freshly baked bread, and juicy tomatoes and cucumbers. Naturally, Turkish mornings must include tea. You can also opt for a fresh smoothie or Turkish coffee to fully wake you up and energize you to tackle this city.

Embark on an Early Morning Ferry

Start your day and Istanbul trip itinerary with a bang with a ferry trip to the Bosphorus. Taking a ferry when spending a day in Istanbul is a must-do activity. While there are many ferry routes to take, we recommend the Golden Horn one. It departs from Eminönü, takes slightly over 30 minutes, and costs just TL3 one way or single.

The route passes the Ecumenical Orthodox Patriarchate-run Fener neighborhood, the former Jewish neighborhood of Balat, the Ottoman Tersane (shipyard), the Feshane, a former fez factory turned art and exhibition hall, and finally, Eyüp, the preferred burial site of Ottoman nobility, which is definitely worth a visit. Ferries depart every dock every 20 minutes on the 25-minute journey from 06:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. You aren’t likely to forget this experience anytime soon, with the coastal breeze wafting across your face and the horizon brimming with marine beauty.

Visit the Hagia Sophia

Your first attraction of the day should be Istanbul’s most important landmark, the Hagia Sophia. You’ll see the longest line outside the Hagia Sophia, which is 1,500 years old. The mosque is open for independent visits, but a guided tour can help you learn more about the history of the site, its numerous mosaics, gold accents, and historic architecture.

This is a must-see if you’re searching for something unique among all of Istanbul’s mosques. There’s a great “Game of Thrones” vibe down there, with haunting overhead structures and a dark ambiance. Following Constantinople’s collapse, the underground cistern—which had originally been constructed to supply water to the Great Palace—was forgotten and abandoned. It wasn’t until 1987 that it was restored and made open to the public. Now, it’s open for visitors to climb down and view its incredibly gothic vibe.

Don’t forget to order an assortment of hummus, baba ganoush, dolma (stuffed grape leaves), cacik (yogurt and cucumber dip) and cheese and olive combos in your meze. For the main course, order a kebap, or a donor, which is similar to meat served in a bread-based wrap with salad and garlic sauces. Top it all off with some tea and delectable Turkish delights as dessert.

With a diverse population of only 10 million, many people lump Jordan under the category of places that have little to offer as a travel destination. However, you will find seasoned travelers and explorers saying otherwise. Jordan is the perfect example of the saying, ‘Big things come in small packages’. From the numerous historically rich sites to the uniquely incredible landscape combination of the Red Sea and the Rum Desert, once you come here, it would be impossible to keep yourself from visiting again.

And as visiting such travel destinations often goes, it’s impossible to get the full travel experience of any country in just a short amount of time. But those who are visiting on a set itinerary or travel schedule don’t often have much of a choice. While you can’t get a comprehensive experience in less than a month, you can certainly enjoy the popular tourist attractions Jordan is famous for. All along with the hospitality of its people and its rich culture in a week.

Making a tour plan for a country with such unending and diverse destinations within a time limit can be a difficult feat. But, we’ve gone ahead and done it for you. We’ve compiled a perfect itinerary for you to spend seven days in Jordan while enjoying the best of all it has to offer for an unforgettable travel experience.

Day 1: Amman Tour

Begin your adventure after a lovely Middle Eastern breakfast in the country. We recommend a famous Jordanian breakfast of a bowl of hot fuul, or boiled broad/fava beans mashed with lemon juice, olive oil, and chopped chilies. It’s eaten with freshly baked khubz, or flatbread, and is sure to keep you full for hours. Start your tour of Amman with a visit to the Roman Theater, Amman Citadel, the Jordan Museum, and King Abdullah I Mosque. Be sure to check out the Roman Temple of Hercules.

Preparing for Your Trip to Jordan

Despite being the heart of the Middle East, Jordan still doesn’t get the rep that it deserves. This is mainly because of the stigma of it being a ‘desert country’ with nothing much to see. However, those who look past it and visit the country for the first time have only good things to say about it. Learning some travel tips can help you have a pleasant experience when you do visit:

Jordan’s official currency is the Jordanian dinar.

ATMs can be found all over Amman, as well as in larger towns and popular tourist locations.

Carry small amounts of cash with you for small purchases like snacks, cab fares, and tips.

The conversion rate at the time of writing is 1 JOD/1.41 USD.

Arabic is the official language of Jordan, but in tourist areas, English is also commonly spoken.

It will help to know a few basic Arabic words and phrases, such as hello (mer-ha-ba) and thank you (shok-ran).

For a seamless transport experience here, you can hire a car and drive yourself, hire a car with a driver for the duration of the trip, or take a private car or local taxi from point A to point B.

The Best Time to Visit Jordan

You can’t expect a country with a predominantly desert landscape not to leave you sweating as you visit one place after another. For those who wish for a cool and pleasant travel experience in Jordan, plan your trip through March and May. You can also visit Jordan during October and November and enjoy its pleasant weather.

This is the best time to book one of the Bedouin camps in Wadi Rum and enjoy the cool Jordanian nights under the glittery canopy of stars twinkling above you—a dreamlike experience free from any light or noise pollution.

Typically Dubai is one of the hottest cities in the world during peak summer time, but as the weather cools down, winter, and especially the November to April period, becomes one of the best times in the year to visit for a honeymoon. Temperatures are down for the most part, providing a perfect opportunity to take part in its outdoor activities, such as a tour of the city, sightseeing its different landmarks, and going on desert safaris and cruises, a lot more tolerable than the extreme temperatures Dubai faces in the period from May to August.
